Write for us
We welcome pitches that help readers notice how cinema works. A strong proposal has a clear screen detail or craft question, explains what the piece will show, and can be supported without invented production claims.
What to pitch
We consider explainers, comparisons, film-history background and close readings focused on story, performance, image, sound or editing. A useful pitch names its central question, the films or scenes it would discuss, and the specific point readers would take away. We favour a defined argument over a broad survey.
What makes a good proposal
Keep the proposal concise and original. Tell us why the subject suits United Cinema Journal, what material supports the idea and where interpretation begins. Flag any relevant conflicts of interest. Do not send confidential material, unsupported claims about intent or a complete draft unless requested.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question or pitch option. Include your name, a short outline and any relevant writing sample details in the message. A submission is not a promise of publication.
A film is made one choice at a time
We start with what can be seen and heard on screen, then ask what a creative choice does. Close attention beats grand claims.
